Shopping
Geneva, like many of the Swiss cities, is regarded as one of the best places to pick up several key items.
Swiss Watches:
Although many of the traditional 'Swiss' brands are now made internationally and are not necessarily associated specifically with Switzerland or indeed Geneva, that doesn't mean you can't indulge yourself whilst you are on holidays! Brands such as Baume et Mercier, Raymond Weil, Omega, Chopard and Rolex are well known around the region and many have large stores in Geneva.
Swiss Army Knives:
These days you can pick up a decent Swiss Army Knife just about anywhere, though there is a lot to be said for shopping for the contraption in the country that invented it. Highly-regarded brands include Victorinox and Wenger, though cheaper brands are available at supermarkets and department stores.
Cuckoo Clocks:
Although cuckoo clocks are not necessarily Swiss in origin, they tend to be associated with the Alps region and the countries that surround it. Many souvenir shops in Geneva sell cuckoo clocks of varying quality, though it pays to ask where they were manufactured - large numbers of the clocks are actually assembled overseas.
Swiss Chocolate and Swiss Wine:
Both Swiss chocolate and wine are considered to be very high quality, and are cheapest when purchased within Switzerland's borders. Although Swiss wine is rarely discussed outside of Europe, it is renowned for being of a superior quality. Swiss chocolate, meanwhile, is famed all over the world and every brand imaginable is on sale in supermarkets and souvenir shops throughout Geneva.
